Eungella Dam – Top choice for Family Camping

Feeling like a weekend away?  Eungella Dam is well known as one of Mackay’s local go-to’s for the perfect family (including the furry kind) getaway.

To get there from Mackay, follow the Peak Downs Highway until you get to the Mackay-Eungella Rd turnoff, then continue all the way to Eungella. It’s approximately a 90km trip, a scenic 2 hour drive, and includes a steep trek up the winding Clarke Range before you reach the Township at the top. Follow the road sweeping to the left which will eventually change from bitumen to gravel for another 35-40km all the way to the dam. It really is a lovely drive that takes you through the picturesque Pioneer Valley, up and over the rainforest of the Eungella National Park and then onto the dusty cattle paddocks of the Crediton State Forest.

(Great to see Freckle Farm produce too – We love those guys). It’s the perfect stop after a hike, a swim at one of the gorgeous beaches or lazy morning fishing at Grasstree Beach!
